Day 29. Valley of Fire

We stayed for a night in this very neat Nevada state park -- Valley of Fire.  We weren’t sure what to expect so we were amazed by the scenery.  The park is so beautiful!  After a day of driving through desert, it was visually refreshing to see such color and form.

We hiked before dusk to an amazing spot called Mouse’s Tub.  Weird name, right?  There was a local outlaw who was named Mouse.  He holed up in the Valley of Fire, eluding capture in these inhabitable hills.  Following the trail to his “tub,” we passed ancient petroglyphs which are carvings by Native Americans.  The petroglyphs are a stark reminder of the people who lived in this valley so many years ago.  So, what was Mouse’s Tub?  The fortunate arrangement of rocks created a tub which collected rainwater, allowing Outlaw Mouse to hold up in these arid hills.  A fun hike.
