1st Day of Our Big Adventure!

Once we crossed the Chesapeake Bay bridge, we officially started our 2012 road trip.  We were a bit late leaving the house, but with the week I've had it's pretty amazing I was ready before noon!  I had great plans to be totally organized with checklists, orderly packed necessities for the trip, and carefully research on where to stop and what to see as we went along.  Wrong.  Instead I mourned the lost of my dear friend Clare, said goodbye to my friend Val, caught up with other old friends ...distracted, definitely distracted.  But the lesson is to live life fully and appreciatively.  So I am very happy to be with my man of 41 years heading out on a grand tour!!

Tonight we are staying at Cape Henlopen State Park near Lewes, Delaware.  It's a new experience for us to roll in with a self-contained camper rather than tents -- nice, very nice.  No electricity here, but it's going to be a cool night, so no problem.  We took a short walk past a WWII observation tower, gazed out at the Atlantic for a few minutes, and drove into Lewes to look around.  What an cool town!  The architecture is old maritime captain style -- big and Victorian.  We stopped in a little Italian deli/restaurant called Taste of Italy.  It is a fun place and the pizza was great.  Definitely worth stopping in when you're in Lewes.
