Camden Maine, day 2
This morning we took a ride up to the top of the hill to a scenic overlook of Penobscott Bay. It is beautiful. On the East Coast, Penobscott Bay is second in size only to the Chesapeake Bay.
We wandered through the galleries and shops of Camden on this beautiful sunny day. After lunch at the Marriner Restaurant in Camden, where Charlie had the largest and best-tasting clam chowder of our trip, we headed for the dock.
We boarded a 58' schooner named Lazy Jack II. We enjoyed the stories of the captain and owner Sean O'Connor, who also actually built the boat. Pretty impressive. During the two-hour cruise we sailed past privately-owned islands, rocky islands where seals sun themselves, and hundreds of lobster pot markers. The captain said that in just a few more weeks, the Bay will have as many as 400 sail boats anchored. It must be a beautiful sight. And for the first time in a number of years, this summer there is a windjammer schooner race scheduled -- good luck, Lazy Jack II !

A boat trip, what fun! Yum, Charlie. That chow-duh is making me hungry.
ReplyDeleteMust be a bit warmer, Charlie has broken out his shorts and "magnum P.I. shirt." Tom Selleck's got nothing on your man! Did you wish you could just sail away to some remote island and stay all season? Dreamy...
