Mt Washington, NH

Vermont "cowch"
First thing this morning, we stopped at the Sugarbush Farm outside Woodstock VT.  Oh my!  They make the nicest cheeses and maple syrup and jellies and other goodies.  They have a website and ship, so I will definitely be ordering more goodies from them.  (Tonight I enjoyed some of their soft Mountain Jack with their raspberry jelly on toast -- very nice dinner!)

Well, we did not stop at Ben and Jerry's because it is no where near our route to Mt. Washington.  But the good news is that we arrived safely.  I say that because we discovered a badly damaged trailer tire when we arrived at the Twin Mountain KOA.  Geez!  Part of the tread had peeled away and it was just this side of exploding.  The tire was worn in a very uneven pattern -- WTH??  Not at all good!  Charlie changed it using the hydraulic jack we had purchased prior to last year's road trip, and he did it perfectly even with my constant fretting and advice.  (Sorry!)  Needless to say, we hope to buy a new tire either tomorrow at the local Sears or on Monday at the nearby RV shop.  I feel very blessed that we didn't have a blowout.

On to Mt Washington!  What can I say?  Charlie did not cry even though he drove -- okay, I'm exaggerating.  But we were both more freaked out by the road to the summit of Mt Washington (named after George) than we were by the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier.  At least the latter had two-foot high stone "guard rails."  Mt Washington had none!  Oh Lord!  I was afraid to even look out the window to enjoy the vistas.

Highest wind speed on earth was recorded here.

See the chains to hold down the building in high winds?

  1. So you're in the building, the wind kicks up, and you're lifted up off the ground? Cool!
