Day 17. Fun in Seattle

Up early today to eat breakfast and drive into Seattle to see the sights.  First stop, Pikes Place Market. How fun!  Of course, we enjoyed the fish market and I loved the flower stands.  I wasn’t able to convince Charlie that fresh flowers were just the thing for a camper traveling down the Pacificcoast.  But the colors and smell were intoxicating!
If I lived in Seattle, I’d go to Pikes Place every week.

Next stop, the Space Needle.  I have been to Seattle a million years ago and had seen the Space Needle.  This time, Charlie and I rode the elevator to the top.  It was so nice to see that the rain, and clouds, and smoke had cleared out enough to provide a pretty view.  The elevator ride was expensive given the time we stayed at the top, but we didn’t begrudge the fee for helping support this 53 year old World Fair icon.  I was tempted to visit the adjacent glass exhibit, but we couldn’t choke down the $50/person admission fee.  Just not a priority for us.

Seeing the Union Lake boathouses was a priority, however.  So neat.  We agreed that if we lived here, it would need to be in a boathouse on Union Lake.  Loved it.

Back at the campground, we ate bison burgers for dinner, the last of our Yellowstone fare.  Charlie also decided we needed some Key Lime pie for dessert.  Yes, it was yummy.

(Stay tuned for some nice video here when I am in an area with better signal strength.)

Day 16. Arrived in Seattle

We decided to stay at an urban KOA.  That means it is right beside a highway, the spaces are close together, and there’s either a railroad or an airport nearby.  That’s okay, because the close-in location is worth it.  Besides, I can always turn on the A/C unit to create lovely white noise.
We were both tired after the drive today, especially Charlie who went to bed shortly after dinner.  We needed the rest.

Day 15. Coeur D'Alene again

First order of business in Coeur D’Alene was to visit my uncles’   It leaves me with a melancholy feeling.  My grandfather Ramey died before I was born, and grandma when I was very young.  As I stood at their sons’ graves, I felt their horror and pain and anger at losing not one, but two, sons in a span of a few short months.  And my dad, he lost his two big brothers.  And my aunts suffered the pain of that family loss.  So sad.  So I clean their headstones and mourn the loss of these two uncles I never knew.
gravesites.

Charlie and I really liked Coeur D’Alene when we visited before.  So we looked forward to spending time in town.  Boy, were we happy for the wind and the rain that made the air breathable for our visit!  There are nice shops downtown that we (i.e., I) enjoyed perusing.  We returned to The Fire restaurant where we ate during our last visit.  The salad and artisan pizza was fantastic!
And Coeur D’Alene’s fun sculptures!  I hope you enjoy them too!
